Imagine a film that has just been released for a month surpassing a record that Avatar 2 took over a year to achieve.

“Spider-Man: A New Day” with a global box office of approximately $2.33 billion has surpassed “Avatar: The Way of Water” and is now the third highest-grossing film in cinema history.

On its ascent, this film has also surpassed “Titanic” with $2.26 billion and the Chinese animation “Ne Zha 2” with $2.27 billion. Only “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame” remain above it.

However, the main story is the speed of this record-breaking. “Avatar 2” was on screen for over a year to reach a box office of $2.32 billion; “A New Day” has surpassed that figure in just 31 days.

In North America, the film has been at the top of the box office for 31 consecutive days and has earned $891.5 million so far. With this figure, only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $936 million is above it, and the gap is only about $39 million.

In international markets, the film's earnings have reached $1.44 billion; China, Japan, the UK, and India have played a significant role in this success.

However, reaching the number one spot seems unlikely for now. “Avatar” with $2.92 billion and “Avengers: Endgame” with $2.79 billion still have a significant lead; moreover, “Endgame” is still
