Dubai is developing an integrated urban lighting system that aims to transform how the city is seen and experienced at night. According to this plan, unified standards for lighting projects across the Emirate of Dubai will be established.
The Dubai Municipality announced on Thursday that this framework will cover the technical, regulatory, and supervisory requirements related to urban lighting.
The goal of this initiative is to improve the quality and consistency of lighting projects, reduce light glare and light pollution, and support Dubai's broader goal of enhancing the quality of life.
This initiative is being developed within the framework of the Dubai Civility Committee's objectives and will be aligned with the Dubai Building Code.
Officials have stated that this system will help create a more cohesive nighttime identity for the city while better highlighting Dubai's landmarks and reflecting the city's cultural characteristics.
It is also expected to enhance the safety of public spaces and support Dubai's nighttime economy by attracting more visitors to commercial, recreational, and entertainment destinations.

This system encourages the use of energy-efficient lighting, smart controls, dynamic and automatic reduction of light intensity, and optimization of lamp operating hours to reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions.
The project will also include measures to protect sensitive coastal and desert ecosystems from excessive artificial light.
