ChatGPT Now Wants to Manage Your Bank Account Too
By connecting financial accounts to ChatGPT, users can review their spending, investments, and debts through conversations with artificial intelligence.
OpenAI, which until yesterday was primarily known for text generation, coding, and answering questions, has now taken a more serious step into users' daily lives; this time entering the world of money and bank accounts.
In the new version, users can connect their bank accounts, credit cards, and even their investment portfolios to OpenAI and the ChatGPT tool. This feature is currently active for Pro subscribers in the United States and works in collaboration with the financial platform Plaid; a company that enables connections to over 12,000 banks and financial institutions.
After connecting, ChatGPT creates a live dashboard of the user's financial status; from daily expenses and subscriptions to investments, installments, and debts. After that, it's not just about displaying numbers and charts; the user can simply ask:
How much did I spend more this month? Where did my money go to waste? Or is my savings plan reasonable or not?
The main idea of OpenAI is for ChatGPT to evolve from a simple chatbot into a complete digital life assistant; access to apps like Spotify, Uber, and DoorDash has also been added along this path.
However, this entry into the financial domain is considered OpenAI's most sensitive step to date. Because users must grant access to very personal data such as transactions and debts. The company has stated that data control remains in the hands of the user, and there is always the option to disconnect or delete information.
Nevertheless, concerns about privacy and the accuracy of analyses have quickly arisen. Some studies have even warned that AI models can still make mistakes in financial decision-making, even if the answers seem completely confident.
Currently, this feature is only available for Pro users with a monthly subscription of $200, but OpenAI plans to expand it in the future.
Ultimately, a significant change is taking shape: the gap between 'chatting with AI' and 'entrusting part of your financial life to it' is narrowing.
