Will Dubai Mall have a Plaza and a new hotel in Downtown?

Mohammed Alabbar, the founder of Emaar, has released a preview of a project titled "Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel"; an action that indicates another project is set to be implemented in the commercial and shopping area of Downtown Dubai.

On Wednesday, Alabbar published a short video with the title: "Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel; Coming Soon" on his verified official Instagram account.

The released video shows a computer-generated simulation of a plaza-style complex that includes pedestrian spaces, illuminated architectural elements, and the Burj Khalifa in the background.

Alabbar has not provided information about the investment value of this project or its exact opening date. However, the release of this post comes at a time when Emaar is still expanding Dubai Mall and developing another major commercial destination in the Dubai Creek Harbor area.

The construction company later provided more details about the "The District" project; a development plan that includes 279 units: 198 retail stores and 81 establishments active in the food and beverage sector.
Additionally, reports regarding updates for Emaar investors have indicated the development of sections along the "Grand Drive". This plan encompasses an area of 440,000 square feet of gross leasable space and is targeted for completion in the second half of 2028.
However, Emaar has not yet confirmed whether Alabbar's recent preview of the "Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel" project is part of this development plan or relates to a separate and independent project.
