With the development of infrastructure and successful performance on urban routes, public transport in Dubai is entering a new phase.

If you have taken the buses in Dubai lately, you may not have noticed a significant change yet; however, behind the scenes, a serious transformation is underway. The Roads and Transport Authority has announced that this year, 735 new electric buses are set to join the public transport fleet, marking the largest expansion of this type of fleet in the UAE.

These buses will gradually enter urban lines and are part of Dubai's plan to achieve a zero-emission transport system by mid-century; a plan defined within the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

Currently, only 40 electric buses are operational in Dubai, but with the addition of this new fleet, the capacity for clean transport will increase significantly. To support this change, charging infrastructure has already been prepared: 5 major operational terminals in locations such as Al Quoz, Al Ruwaya, Lahbab, Business Bay, and Jebel Ali are now equipped with 32 ultra-fast chargers.

One of these buses is currently active on the F13 route, capable of traveling up to 370 kilometers on a single charge, powered by a robust 470 kWh battery. Special attention has also been given to cooling and passenger comfort; an important aspect in the heat of Dubai.

Initial assessments indicate that the performance of these buses, especially on short and medium urban routes, has been very successful, with driver and passenger satisfaction exceeding 95 percent.

On the other hand, the environmental impacts are also significant: just in 2025, over 59,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced, and greenhouse gas levels will be 12 percent lower than the previous year. This trend brings Dubai one step closer to its goal of reducing pollution by 30 percent by 2030.

Overall, Dubai is quietly but seriously changing the shape of its urban transport, a change that may not be immediately noticeable today, but will soon transform the daily experience of the city.
