The Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates has approved a list of generative AI platforms for use in schools. This decision is part of creating a formal framework to promote the safe and responsible use of AI technology in classrooms.

This initiative, presented in an appendix of the guide for the safe and responsible use of generative AI in classrooms by the ministry, specifies several authorized tools for educational and learning purposes. This policy is announced as schools around the world increasingly integrate AI into education, raising both opportunities and concerns regarding academic integrity, privacy, and digital literacy.

According to a report by Emirates Al-Youm, four main platforms based on large language models have been approved for controlled use in the school environment. These platforms include ChatGPT from OpenAI, Copilot from Microsoft, Gemini from Google, and Claude from Anthropic. The Ministry of Education has stated that the selected tools are among the most recognized platforms in this field and possess advanced capabilities in understanding and generating natural language.

These AI platforms can support education by helping students develop research, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, teachers can design more interactive and personalized learning experiences. These tools are considered a complement to traditional teaching methods, not a replacement for them.

The Ministry of Education of the UAE emphasized that this decision aims to keep pace with rapid global technological changes and prepare students for a digital future. At the same time, the use of AI must be framed within specific ethical and legal boundaries to protect students and maintain academic standards.

Schools and teachers have been instructed not to rely solely on outputs generated by AI and to review all content by humans. Students are also required to verify the accuracy of information, cite sources, and adhere to principles of academic integrity.
