Before you get deceived, this app checks the truth

These days, just watching a video is no longer enough to believe it. With the rise of deepfakes, the line between reality and fabricated content is becoming increasingly blurred; and now the UAE wants to have a local solution for this digital crisis.

“Bashayer Al-Salami,” a cybersecurity researcher in the UAE, has developed a platform called “Deepy”; an AI-based tool that can detect the falsification of photos, videos, and audio files.

This system examines uploaded content from various angles; from unnatural lighting and shadows to lip movements, facial expressions, and even subtle changes in pixels and sound. Deepy is trained using deep learning models to identify the traces of AI manipulations; things that usually go unnoticed by ordinary users.

According to Al-Salami, during times of crises and political tensions, the spread of fake content significantly increases, and this can influence public opinion. For this reason, Deepy is set to help media, government entities, and even ordinary users check the authenticity of content before resharing it.

The public version of this platform is still under development, but the ultimate goal is clear: to create an environment where no viral video is immediately believed.
