UAE Summer and an Important Warning for Homes

Experts say that not servicing air conditioners can lead to the spread of pollutants and exacerbate allergies and respiratory issues.

If you find yourself sneezing more at home these days, experiencing headaches, or feeling nasal and throat congestion, it may not just be due to dust or weather changes.

With rising temperatures in the UAE, most families keep their windows closed and use air conditioning for longer periods. However, doctors and maintenance experts warn that unserviced air conditioners can significantly reduce indoor air quality.

According to specialists, in the hot and humid conditions of the UAE, moisture, dust, and mold gradually accumulate in the filters, ducts, and internal components of air conditioners. These particles then spread throughout the home with the airflow and can worsen allergies, cause coughing, nasal congestion, headaches, and even shortness of breath.

Based on estimates from the home services company Justlife, about 30% of homes may face some form of mold buildup in their ventilation systems. The company has also reported a 70% increase in requests related to mold during the hot months of the year.

Experts say that children, the elderly, individuals with asthma or allergies, and those with weaker immune systems are more susceptible to these issues than others.

Specialists recommend servicing air conditioners before the peak heat of summer and regularly cleaning or replacing filters. Additionally, if you notice a musty smell, humidity, or a drop in air conditioner performance at home, it is advisable to take the matter seriously.
