UAE is the second country in the world to approve a drug for a rare blood disease

🔸 The UAE Drug Authority has approved the drug MIMRYLO, scientifically known as rusfertide, for the treatment of adults with polycythemia vera; the UAE is the second country in the world to authorize this drug.

🔸 Polycythemia vera is a rare and chronic blood disease in which the body produces too many red blood cells. This condition can thicken the blood and increase the risk of blood clots and other complications.

🔸 This drug helps control the disease by reducing red blood cell levels and provides a new treatment option for patients with limited treatment choices.

🔸 The drug is available in a single-dose vial containing sterile powder and must be prepared before use and prescribed under the supervision of a physician or experienced healthcare staff in managing this disease.

🔸 The UAE Drug Authority has emphasized that patients must continue treatment exactly as directed by their physician and take regular medical follow-ups seriously.

🔸 The Director General of this authority stated that this approval is part of the UAE's efforts to provide patients with quicker access to innovative treatments, alongside scientific evaluation and patient safety maintenance.
