The United Arab Emirates, with 2.93 trillion dollars (10.75 trillion dirhams) in assets under management by sovereign investors, has become the fourth richest country in the world. This statistic was announced in the 2026 annual report of the Global SWF, published on Thursday.

The United States tops the list with 13.2 trillion dollars in assets, followed by China with 8.22 trillion dollars, Japan with 3.84 trillion dollars, the UAE with 2.93 trillion dollars, and Norway with 2.27 trillion dollars. These sovereign investors include sovereign wealth funds, public pension funds, and central banks.

The largest sovereign entities in the UAE include the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority with 1.18 trillion dollars, Dubai Investment Corporation with 429 billion dollars, Mubadala with 358 billion dollars, ADQ with 251 billion dollars, Emirates Investment Authority with 116 billion dollars, Dubai Investment Fund with 80 billion dollars, and Dubai Holding with 72 billion dollars in assets.

In October 2024, Abu Dhabi was introduced as the richest city in the world, surpassing Oslo. With 1.7 trillion dollars in assets under management by sovereign wealth funds based in the city, Abu Dhabi earned the title of "Capital of Capital." Additionally, the UAE was the fifth top investment destination in the world in 2025, receiving 9.9 billion dollars in investments from sovereign wealth funds.

Sovereign wealth funds crossed the 15 trillion dollar mark for the first time in December 2025. Together with public pension funds and central banks, they now manage 60 trillion dollars in assets and reserves. This figure is expected to reach nearly 80 trillion dollars by the end of the decade in 2030, with the UAE continuing to play a key role in global investments.
