New information from iOS 27 indicates that future AirPods may be able to recognize and analyze their surroundings using a camera and artificial intelligence.

Imagine being able to identify a building, translate texts, or ask questions about what is in front of you, all without taking your iPhone out of your pocket, just with your AirPods. Now, a new leak from iOS 27 suggests that this idea might not be too far from reality.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, one of the developers encountered codes related to an undisclosed device named B790 in the second beta version of iOS 27. These codes refer to a product that uses cameras placed on either side of the user's head to capture images; a topic that aligns with old rumors about AirPods equipped with cameras.

Reports also indicate that these AirPods will likely be equipped with Apple's Visual Intelligence capability; an AI technology that can recognize objects, places, and texts through the camera. If released, users will be able to utilize these features using only their AirPods without having to take their iPhone out of their pocket.

However, Apple has not officially confirmed this product yet. It was previously said that these AirPods would be introduced in 2026, but due to software challenges, their release may be postponed to next year, coinciding with the special iPhone for Apple's 20th anniversary.
