The return of Peter Parker after nearly five years of waiting was exactly what cinemas needed.

The movie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” starring Tom Holland, created a storm during its global opening days and registered $927 million in sales worldwide, making it the second largest opening in cinema history.

This film also had a historic performance in North America, with $355 million in sales during its opening weekend, just slightly below the record set by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019, which started with $357 million.

Analysts believe that a combination of several factors contributed to the great success of this film, from the global popularity of the Spider-Man character to the long wait of fans and positive reviews.

The success of Spider-Man was not the only major event in cinemas this week. The film “Odyssey” from Universal also exceeded expectations, having grossed $721 million worldwide so far.

The performance of these two films led to one of the highest-grossing weekends in North American box office history; total sales reached around $430 million.

In the sales chart, “Toy Story 5” ranked third with $6.3 million, and the films “Minions and Monsters” and the live-action version of “Moana” were also among the top sellers.

Experts now predict that if this trend continues, this summer could become one of the few cinematic seasons with sales exceeding $4 billion. According to Rentrak statistics, total box office sales since the beginning of the year have reached $6.19 billion, which is about 15% higher than the same period last year.
