The first rail-road ambulance in the UAE; faster emergency response in remote areas.

The rail network in the UAE and Saudi Arabia is rapidly expanding, and now a special ambulance that can move on both train tracks and roads is set to transform emergency services in remote and desert areas.

This ambulance has been manufactured by Nefco in the UAE and designed according to American standards. A unique feature of this vehicle is the rail system installed at the front, which allows the tires to lift off the ground and enables the ambulance to move directly on the train tracks.

This project aligns with the development of the Etihad Rail line; a 900-kilometer line connecting Ghuwaifat at the Saudi border to Fujairah. The Etihad Rail passenger service, with 11 stations across all seven emirates, will be launched in phases this year. This project is part of the GCC rail network aimed at connecting the six GCC countries by December 2030.

Mohammed Abdul Jabbar, Sales Manager at Nefco, said on the sidelines of the Global Health Exhibition: “When the ambulance is placed on the rail, the rail system is activated, and the tires lift up. The vehicle moves directly on the rail system, and there is no need for tires anymore.”

This rail-road ambulance is equipped with complete emergency equipment, including a stretcher, automatic shock device, portable ventilator, oxygen system, first aid kit, and trauma supplies. The vehicle body has been fully produced by Nefco in the UAE, and only its rail system has been imported from Europe.

With the expansion of the rail network in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, these rail ambulances can play a significant role in rapid emergency response to difficult and remote desert areas, representing a major step forward in enhancing emergency services in the region.
