If you are a member of the Emirates Skywards loyalty program, starting next year, calculating the expiration date of your miles will become easier.

Emirates has announced that from June 1, 2027, the miles you earn, whether through flights or activities with program partners, will have a validity of three years from the date of crediting and will expire at the end of that month.

Until today, the expiration date depended on the member's birth month; that is, two people who earned miles on the same day could have different expiration dates.

For example, miles earned on May 10, 2024, would be valid for someone born in July until July 31, 2027, but for someone born in March until March 31, 2028.

With the new rule, this difference will be eliminated, and all members will have exactly one formula: three years from the time of earning miles, until the end of that month.

The important point is that this change does not include miles that are currently in members' accounts or earned before June 1, 2027, and they will still expire according to the current rules.

Emirates is expected to have over 38 million Skywards members by the end of the 2025-26 financial year, and since the program's launch in 2000, over 450 billion miles have been used for reward flights and seat upgrades.

Alongside this change, Emirates has also temporarily made it easier to maintain or upgrade Skywards membership status until August 31, 2026, allowing members to maintain their current level or upgrade to the next level by reaching 80% of the usual threshold.
