Should we sell our old phone before or after the arrival of iPhone 18?
As the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max approaches in the UAE, a question has arisen for many owners of old iPhones: should we sell the phone now or wait?
Mobile sellers in Deira say that the arrival of new models usually puts pressure on the prices of second-hand phones, and some models may see a price drop of about 10% within a week.
For example, according to one seller, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is currently being bought and sold for around 3300 AED in good condition, and after the arrival of the iPhone 18, its price may drop to about 3000 AED.
However, this price drop is not uniform across all models. The iPhone 16 Pro Max still has high demand, and its limited availability may keep its price stable or even increase it.
On the other hand, the condition of the phone itself plays an important role in the final price. Sellers say that a battery health of about 80% can lower the purchase offer by 15 to 20%. Replacing the display costs about 350 AED, and replacing the battery costs about 300 AED, which reduces the phone's value, and even visible scratches can affect the price by about 200 AED.
In contrast, a phone with a battery health of around 95%, a good appearance, and the original box and cable usually receives a better offer.
Another option is trade-in or delivering the old phone when purchasing a new model. According to sellers, considering the discount Apple offers for this method, it may be a suitable option for some models. The trade-in value from Apple varies from about 160 to over 3000 AED depending on the model and condition of the phone.
Pre-sales of the iPhone 18 series began on Saturday, September 12, in the UAE, and the delivery of phones will take place from September 18. The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone, is also set to enter pre-sale in October.
