Sharjah Builds a Lake with 28 Million Gallons of Water and Tiered Waterfalls
Kalba is set to become a new destination for nature tourism and family recreation; the Al Freish Lake project in Sharjah has been approved and is expected to transform the landscape of this part of the city with a lake, green mountains, and tiered waterfalls.
This lake will cover an area of approximately 51,200 square meters and can hold up to 28 million gallons of water. The project will be constructed behind Al Marsh Square and will be about 750 meters long.
Around the lake, landscaping is underway on the slopes of the mountains, and waterfalls are expected to flow through the green spaces, eventually leading towards the sea.
For visitors, about 200 parking spaces are planned so they can leave their cars and continue the rest of the way on foot; meaning Al Freish is intended to be more than just a scenic spot for photos, but a space for walking, family recreation, and enjoying nature.
Sharjah officials previously compared this project to the Al Rafisah Dam in Khorfakkan; a family destination nestled among the mountains, offering facilities such as kayaking, pedal boats, cafes, and restaurants.
Al Freish is actually part of a larger project to transform Kalba. In recent years, attractions such as hanging gardens with over 100,000 trees and Al Hafiya Lake have also been added to the area. Al Hafiya Lake covers 132,000 square meters and has a storage capacity of 155 million gallons of water, with mountain trails, green spaces, waterfalls, and a dedicated children's area created around it.
The changes in Kalba are not limited to nature. Other projects, including the development of the Jebel Dime region, the enhancement of the corniche, the construction of new roads, residential projects, as well as the Kalba Heritage Museum and Pearl Theater, are also part of the city's development plans.
According to previous announcements by the ruler of Sharjah, several Kalba projects are expected to open in December 2026.
