QR Code Instead of Bus and Metro Ticket
Passengers of the metro, tram, and bus in Dubai can now travel using a QR code ticket on their mobile phones.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new digital ticket service that allows passengers to use the metro, tram, and public buses in Dubai without the need for a paper ticket, simply by using the QR code on their mobile phones.
With this service, residents and tourists can purchase a digital nol ticket through the nol Pay or S’hail applications and scan the QR code at the designated ticket scanning devices in Dubai's public transport network.
How to use the digital ticket
Metro passengers can scan their QR code at the blue entry gates. Bus passengers can validate their ticket by holding their mobile phone in front of the red nol devices near the entrance. This service is also available on the Dubai tram.
How to buy a QR code ticket?
To obtain a ticket, passengers must open either the nol Pay or S’hail application, select a single journey or a one-day ticket, specify the travel area or desired destination, and pay the fare.
After payment, the QR code ticket is issued immediately and will be available through the same application.
How long is the validity of digital tickets?
According to the official RTA service guide, unused digital QR code tickets are valid for up to 90 days from the date of purchase.
One-day tickets are valid only until midnight of the same day after activation, and contrary to popular belief, their validity is not a full 24 hours.
Passengers must scan their digital ticket upon entry and exit, and keep the ticket accessible throughout their journey, including when transferring between different public transport modes.
