Old Al Sufouh Roundabout Removed; Traffic in the Area Reduced by 60%
The famous Al Sufouh roundabout in Dubai has been removed; travel time reduced by 50%
If you pass through 2nd December Street in Dubai, you probably remember the old Al Sufouh roundabout; a roundabout that had been a familiar point in this busy neighborhood for years, and during peak hours, passing through it could be time-consuming. Now, this roundabout has given way to an intersection equipped with traffic lights; a change that, according to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has reduced travel time by 50% and traffic queues during peak hours by up to 60%.
This project was completed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and its aim is to facilitate traffic flow and enhance safety in one of Dubai's busiest routes.
The new intersection manages the movement of vehicles on 2nd December Street and the connected routes, improving access to the neighborhoods of Al Sufouh, Al Bada, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba, Jumeirah, and the Dubai World Trade Center area. Better connectivity with Sheikh Zayed Road is also one of the benefits of this change.
This change is not just for drivers. According to RTA, the new design helps improve the movement of buses and access to public transport, and considering pedestrian crossings, it also enhances traffic safety.
This project is part of Dubai's broader plan to improve the road network in the city center and is being implemented alongside the World Trade Center roundabout development project to facilitate connectivity between this area, Sheikh Zayed Road, and the surrounding streets.
