New Year Message from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed
Hours before the New Year, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the country, issued a message for the New Year, wishing the people of the UAE and the world a new year filled with hope, solidarity, and prosperity. In his message, he emphasized the importance of collective efforts for progress and a better future for all.
At the same time, other UAE leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, also sent similar messages, viewing the new year as an opportunity for success, economic prosperity, and international cooperation. The Crown Prince of Dubai also highlighted the role of unity and shared values in building a bright future for the next generations.
These messages were released just before the fireworks ceremony, and it was reported that the UAE was preparing for unprecedented celebrations on New Year's Eve.
Grand fireworks in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah drew thousands of residents and tourists to urban spaces. Additionally, major concerts such as John Legend's performance in Abu Dhabi and Maroon 5's at Atlantis The Palm Dubai were among the most significant events of the night.
In Dubai, city management has made extensive preparations for one of the busiest nights of the year; from early closures of some main roads, extending metro operating hours, to deploying nearly 10,000 police, rescue, and medical personnel. A fully equipped field hospital will also be active in the vicinity of Burj Khalifa.
Meanwhile, the tourism sector also experienced bustling nights. Many restaurants, bars, and hotels around Downtown and Business Bay were fully booked days in advance. Hotels report increased demand, especially from European and Russian tourists, noting that the length of stay for guests has increased compared to previous years.
January 1 has been declared a public holiday for both the public and private sectors, and Friday, January 2, will also be a remote working day for federal government employees (except for essential jobs). Additionally, the time for Friday prayers will change to 12:45 from this date.
The UAE begins 2026 with messages of hope, extensive celebrations, and is ready to host millions; an image that highlights the country’s status as one of the world's most important winter destinations more than ever.
