More than 39,000 people in the UAE have registered as organ donors
More than 39,000 people in the UAE have registered as organ donors, and so far, over 1,195 organ transplant surgeries have been performed under the national organ donation program of this country.
Ahmed Ali Al-Sayegh, the Minister of Health and Prevention of the UAE, announced on World Organ Donation Day that this statistic shows an increase in public awareness about organ donation in the UAE and greater trust in the healthcare and organ transplant system.
According to him, the UAE currently ranks first among GCC countries in terms of the growth of the number of donors and organ transplants, and the Hayat program has also become one of the fastest-growing programs in this field globally.
Al-Sayegh stated that the Hayat program is part of the UAE's vision to create a leading global healthcare system; a system that focuses on innovation, sustainability, and the use of advanced technologies to enhance the quality of life for people.
The increase in the number of registered donors coincides with the expansion of organ transplant services in the UAE, and the government is working to familiarize more individuals with the topic of organ donation.
The Minister of Health emphasized that surpassing the number of registered donors beyond 39,000 indicates an increase in the awareness of residents and their greater trust in the healthcare and organ transplant system in the country.
He also mentioned that the impact of each transplant surgery is not limited to the patient but can provide hope and stability to an entire family, improve their quality of life, and strengthen the values of solidarity present in the UAE community.
Al-Sayegh urged more individuals to join the Hayat program, stating that increasing the number of donors can strengthen the organ transplant system in the UAE and assist patients who might otherwise wait years for a suitable organ.
According to the Minister, the progress of the Hayat program aligns with the broader goals of the UAE's healthcare system within the framework of the We the UAE 2031 vision; a program that focuses on the quality of life and long-term health of the population.
He also related this matter to the Year of the Family in the UAE, emphasizing that the effects of organ donation extend beyond the patient to include the family and community as well.
