Is McLaren's First SUV on the Way?
McLaren Confirms Production of Its First SUV
McLaren has finally confirmed its plans to produce its first SUV; a hybrid vehicle that aims to bring this British brand into a new competition in the luxury and powerful car market.
Following management changes and new investments, the company has announced an extensive development program that includes the creation of a new SUV, development of proprietary engines, and a visual identity overhaul.
£500 Million Investment for McLaren's Future
McLaren's main shareholder has made the largest financial backing in the history of this automaker by allocating £500 million. This budget will be used for the development of the Woking factory, establishing new production lines in the UK, and expanding the carbon fiber parts production center in Sheffield.
McLaren also intends to increase its production capacity and develop the necessary infrastructure for its next generation of vehicles.

McLaren's Hybrid SUV Focused on Performance
The new McLaren SUV is expected to hit the market before the end of this decade. This vehicle will be developed on a lightweight carbon fiber-based structure, with the company's engineers placing special emphasis on weight reduction and increasing the power-to-weight ratio.
McLaren executives consider models like Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX as the main competitors for this vehicle; although Ferrari Purosangue does not fall into its direct competitive category.
McLaren Will Produce Future Engines In-House
One of the significant changes in McLaren's new program is the design and in-house production of engines. In the past, the company collaborated with Ricardo for engine development, but in the new generation of vehicles, it intends to develop engine technology independently.
The concept vehicle McL 6GT has also been introduced as an example of McLaren's future direction; a model that is set to be produced in limited numbers in 2028 with a V8 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission.
Change of Logo and New Brand Identity for McLaren
Alongside the development of new products, McLaren will also change its visual identity. The company's new logo will be introduced using a custom font McLaren Sans and modifications to the design of the letter c.
According to announced plans, McLaren's new development projects could create around 1,000 direct jobs and nearly 3,000 job opportunities in the supply chain by 2032.
