Ignoring the school bus results in a fine of 1000 dirhams and 10 negative points
With the start of the school year and the return of thousands of school buses to the streets of Abu Dhabi, the police have once again reminded drivers of an important rule: When the "Stop" sign next to a school bus is activated, you must come to a complete stop.
Drivers must maintain a distance of at least five meters from the bus when students are getting on and off, and must not pass by it at any time.
Ignoring this rule can result in a fine of 1000 dirhams and 10 negative points for the driver.
This five-meter distance is to ensure that students who are getting off the bus or intend to cross the street have enough space and proper visibility.
Abu Dhabi police have asked drivers to be particularly cautious around schools and bus routes during the morning hours when students are heading to school and in the afternoon when they are returning.
With the reopening of schools, the streets around schools and residential areas will become busier again; therefore, a simple rule can prevent a serious incident: if you see the school bus stop sign, stop and maintain a distance of at least five meters.
