Reopening of a Section of Al-Tawun Intersection to Reduce Traffic in Dubai–Sharjah
Drivers commuting between Dubai and Sharjah can expect improved traffic flow as the first phase of a major road development project was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 4.
The first phase of this project, inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, includes the reopening of a section of Al-Tawun intersection and "several bridges and intersections".
This reopening coincided with the start of the Sharjah International Book Fair, and now the one-way route from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards the Sharjah Exhibition Centre is accessible.
In the second phase, the grade-separated intersection at the upper section of Al-Tawun Square and Al-Tawun tunnel will be fully reopened. Additionally, the construction of bridges and intersections along three industrial streets will be completed.
Once fully operational, this project is expected to increase the capacity of the road network, reduce traffic congestion, and create more communication routes between residential, commercial, and industrial areas of Sharjah and the main roads leading to Dubai.
This project includes the construction of new tunnels, bridges, and intersections, as well as road widening.
