If you drink coffee every day, read this!
🔸 A study on more than 350,000 people followed for 13 years has shown that coffee consumption is associated with a reduced risk of cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death from liver diseases.
🔸 Individuals who drank 5 cups or more of coffee daily had a 32% lower risk of cirrhosis, a 47% lower risk of liver cancer, and a 42% reduction in liver-related deaths compared to lower consumers.
🔸 However, the strongest association with liver benefits was observed with about 3 to 4 cups per day, and even 1 to 2 cups were associated with a reduced risk.
🔸 Interestingly, both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee showed similar results; therefore, researchers say this potential effect is not solely related to caffeine.
🔸 Higher coffee consumers also had, on average, lower fat, inflammation, and liver fibrosis.
🔸 Researchers emphasize that these results do not mean a recommendation to start drinking coffee for liver protection. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, controlling blood sugar and blood pressure, and limiting alcohol remain the most important preventive measures.
🔸 Excessive caffeine consumption can also lead to heart palpitations, anxiety, increased blood pressure, and sleep disturbances. For most adults, about 400 mg of caffeine per day is considered a general safe limit.
