If you are planning for the next holidays in the UAE, this news might be pleasant for you. According to the law of shifting public holidays, it is possible that the holiday for the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) this August will be moved to the beginning of the week, creating a three-day weekend for employees in the public and private sectors.

According to the predictions of the Hijri calendar, this occasion will fall on Tuesday, August 25 this year; however, the UAE government has the authority to move some holidays that fall in the middle of the week to the beginning or end of the week. If this law is applied for this occasion, the holiday will be moved to Monday, August 24.

Of course, the final date is not yet confirmed. Since the beginning of lunar months depends on the sighting of the moon, the exact timing of the holiday and the decision regarding its shift will be officially announced close to the date.

This law was enacted with the aim of creating longer holidays and reducing disruption in the weekly work schedule, but not all occasions are included. For example, the holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha will still be held on their religious dates.

Additionally, if an employee works on an official holiday, according to the labor law of the UAE, they must either receive a substitute day off or be paid overtime in addition to their regular salary as per the law.

After this occasion, the last official holiday of the year 2026 in the UAE will be the Eid al-Union (UAE National Day) on December 2 and 3.
