After years of anticipation, the opening date of one of Abu Dhabi's most important cultural projects has been announced. The Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi is set to open on December 11, 2026, on Saadiyat Island, the heart of the cultural district of the UAE capital.

Designed by Frank Gehry, the renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect, this museum is expected to become one of Abu Dhabi's new artistic landmarks; a place that, alongside the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, the Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum, and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, completes the Saadiyat cultural collection.

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is not just a space for displaying artworks; its design aims to create connections between visitors, artists, and various stories from around the world. This museum will showcase a collection of modern and contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, video works, and new media.

The museum building itself will be one of the main attractions. This complex features 30 galleries, a large central space, and 10 conical structures, some of which are made with metal cladding and one with a combination of onyx stone and glass. These cones not only create a unique architectural form but also contribute to natural ventilation and reduce the building's energy consumption.

The museum's exhibition space covers approximately 11,600 square meters, with its outdoor exhibition areas reaching 23,000 square meters; a project that has a total built area of around 80,000 square meters.

The architectural inspiration for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is drawn from the forms and landscapes of the Gulf region, aiming to narrate the stories of the UAE alongside a global perspective on art. Visitors are expected to experience the artworks not just as a historical path but through connections between cultures, generations, and different ideas.

The Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi is part of the global network of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which has museums in New York, Venice, and Bilbao. Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism has announced that more information about the collection and special programs of this museum will be released in the coming months.
