Gradual Return to University Attendance for Practical Courses Starting March 30 in the UAE

 

According to a circular sent to universities, this phased return will include 14 priority programs.

 

Universities across the UAE are set to cautiously resume in-person classes for certain programs that require practical training starting Monday, March 30, 2026. These programs include clinical internships, laboratory activities, field applications, or in-person exams.

 

The Gulf Times has confirmed that based on the directive from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoESHR), higher education institutions have been mandated to gradually resume in-person education, but only for courses where practical experience is essential.

 

According to this circular, the phased return will include 14 priority academic programs, including health sciences, medical residency and fellowship programs, biological and biomedical sciences, engineering, information technology, architecture, psychology, and other fields.

 

This decision has been made in coordination with the Education Council, Human Development, and Community, aiming to maintain the quality of education while ensuring safety considerations are met.

 

Before reopening classes, universities must adhere to strict conditions, including having clear emergency evacuation plans, approved protocols for critical situations, and comprehensive communication regarding safety guidelines to students and staff.

 

Outdoor educational and training activities will not be permitted, reflecting the cautious approach of authorities as they continue to monitor the situation.

 

Other programs that do not require physical attendance will continue to be conducted remotely at least until April 3, unless a new announcement is made.

 

Meanwhile, universities have been instructed to maintain close coordination with local authorities and be prepared for any potential changes.

 

The ministry has emphasized that educational institutions remain fully responsible for maintaining educational standards and ensuring that students achieve learning objectives—whether in online or in-person education.
