If you pass through Sheikh Zayed Road or the main routes of Dubai during peak hours, you should expect an important change starting from October 1.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai Police, will implement new restrictions on the movement of trucks and heavy vehicles during peak traffic hours; a measure aimed at reducing traffic and increasing road safety.

According to the new regulations, trucks will not be allowed to move on Al Maktoum Street, Al Qudra, Airport Tunnel, and all intersection routes at any time of the day.

On Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, and some residential areas including Oud Al Muteena, Muhaisnah, and Al Mizhar, truck movement will be prohibited from 6 AM to 10 PM.

Restrictions on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will also be limited to peak traffic hours. Trucks will not be allowed to move on the route between Ras Al Khor Highway and the Sharjah border in both directions during the following times:

• 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM
• 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
• 5:30 PM to 8 PM

These same time slots will apply to Damascus Street, Oman Street, and Airport Street as well.

There is one exception: the Emirates Highway or E611 will not be subject to these restrictions.

The RTA has asked truck drivers and transport companies to plan their routes in advance and use designated routes and truck parking areas. According to this organization, about 150,000 heavy vehicles use 16 truck parking areas in Dubai each month; these parking areas have a total of over 1,000 parking spaces.
