Dubai sets record for least power outages in the world; only 49 seconds per year

The DEWA has achieved a new world record, reducing the power outage time for customers to just 0.82 minutes per year — equivalent to about 49 seconds.

This record surpasses DEWA's performance from last year, where the power outage time was recorded at 0.94 minutes per year.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, announced that this achievement aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to create the best electricity and water infrastructure in the world.

He stated that DEWA extensively utilizes Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, in its operations and strategies.

According to him, DEWA's smart electricity network, which will be developed by 2035 with an investment of 7 billion dirhams, plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of energy transmission and distribution, reducing outages, managing consumption loads, and increasing customer satisfaction.

One of the most important projects of this organization is the 'Smart Grid Automatic Recovery System'; the first system of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa that can identify faults, isolate the damaged section, and restore power without human intervention, operating 24/7.

DEWA also announced that the power outage time in Dubai has decreased from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to just 0.82 minutes in 2025; a figure that is significantly lower than the average of about 15 minutes for major utility companies in the European Union.
