Dubai Police Warning: Artificial Intelligence Makes It Harder to Distinguish Real Photos and Videos from Fake Ones
Dubai Police Warning About the Dangers of Deepfake; When Even Real Images Are Questioned!
Dubai Police have issued a warning in a new study that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and "deepfake" technology is making it increasingly difficult to distinguish real photos, videos, and sounds from fake samples. This technology not only has the potential to lead to the spread of misinformation but may also undermine public trust in real content.
The study, conducted by the Dubai Police Future Studies Center, shows that AI tools are now capable of accurately simulating people's faces and voices; a capability that can be used for identity theft, fraud, spreading misleading news, and abusing personal information.
Brigadier Dr. Hamdan Ahmed Hamdan Alghasiah, Director of the Dubai Police Future Studies Center, has warned that this threat could even impact police investigations; as in the future, the main challenge may not only be identifying fake images but also proving the authenticity of photos, videos, and audio files.
The report also emphasizes that artificial intelligence can be part of the solution. Advanced digital manipulation detection tools, file authenticity verification, and increasing public awareness can help combat this threat.
This research is part of the UAE Ministry of Interior's campaign titled "Safe Emirates with Your Digital Awareness" and was published in collaboration with Dubai Police and the Dubai Electronic Security Center, coinciding with Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October.
The main goal of these efforts, in addition to identifying fake content, is to maintain public trust in real information in the age of artificial intelligence.
