Dubai Offers Free Guide for Parents on Children's Use of Artificial Intelligence
Dubai has launched a free platform that helps parents cope with the challenges of their children's use of artificial intelligence; from assigning school tasks to chatbots and confiding in them to creating and sharing fake images of real people.
This platform, named GenDubAI, was launched on Wednesday, October 14, by the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), in collaboration with the Community Development Authority (CDA) and the Dubai Future Foundation.
The tool is available in Arabic and English and is designed for families with children aged 8 to 15. Its goal is to teach how to use artificial intelligence safely and responsibly through real-life scenarios, rather than just explaining how the technology works.
The platform examines six common scenarios: using artificial intelligence for homework, consulting on personal issues, creating content, excessive reliance on AI responses, generating fake images, and encountering responses that do not align with family values.
If a child says that artificial intelligence understands them better than their parents, the recommendation is for parents to first ask about the reason for this feeling and see how they can make home conversations easier for them. In this guide, the child's privacy and keeping the communication channel open with them are also important.
Another section of the platform is dedicated to AI-generated fake images. The guide asks parents to first determine whether the child created the image, received it from someone else, shared it, or was the subject of the image.
In such cases, parents should talk to the child without jumping to conclusions. If the image has been published, they can take action to remove it or report the content to the relevant platform.
In cases where the image was created without the individual's consent, it is recommended to refrain from republishing it and seek appropriate support. Sexual, threatening, hateful, or humiliating images are also considered cases requiring special attention to individuals' safety.
This platform has been launched on a trial basis, and its content is based on international guidelines and research conducted with Emirati families.
