Chain collision on Sharjah highway after car crashes into stopped truck.

A moment of distraction behind the wheel was enough for a simple accident to turn into a chain collision on one of Sharjah's highways.

Sharjah police, by releasing a video of the incident, once again warned about the dangers of distracted driving. In the released footage, a truck stops in the middle of the road, but a white car moving at high speed fails to notice the obstacle ahead and crashes directly into the truck.

The impact causes the car to veer off course and hit the guardrail beside the road. Moments later, another vehicle coming from behind collides with the damaged car, turning the incident into a chain collision.

UAE officials have repeatedly emphasized that inattention to the road and loss of focus while driving remain one of the most important factors in serious accidents in the country. According to data released by the Ministry of Interior, about 60% of severe accidents last year were related to four main driving violations; among these, driver distraction, with a 16% share, is the second main factor after sudden lane changes.

Statistics from recent years also show that driving without focus remains among the top five causes of road fatalities in the UAE.

The police have urged drivers to focus all their attention on the road while driving, as just a few seconds of inattention can lead to a serious and damaging incident.
