Ajman police announced that a woman who entered the UAE with her husband and children was arrested at the airport and transferred to Ajman; the reason for this arrest was an Instagram comment under a photo of a luxury bag that said, 'It's fake.'

According to the police, this comment led to mockery and a wave of jokes from users against the owner of the bag, and ultimately, the owner of the photo filed an official complaint against this woman.

Police officials say that many social media users are still not adequately aware of the legal consequences of comments and online jokes in the UAE, and even a simple remark can turn into a legal case.

This woman was stopped during passport control after entering the country; while her husband and children were shocked, she spent one night in detention and was then transferred to Ajman for further legal proceedings.

Ajman police stated that if the complainant did not give consent, this woman could face imprisonment or a fine ranging from 250,000 to 500,000 dirhams under the cybercrime and anti-defamation laws in the UAE.

Ultimately, both parties settled the case amicably, but the police warned that any form of insult, mockery, damage to individuals' reputations, or encouragement of online harassment could lead to legal action in the UAE.

Ajman police also announced the launch of an 'Online Bail' system that allows for temporary release without physical transfer between emirates in some lighter cases.
