A teacher in Abu Dhabi was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting four students in the classroom. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court also issued a deportation order against him and required him to pay all court costs.

This incident occurred in a private school in Abu Dhabi. As a result of the assault, the students sustained injuries that hindered their personal affairs for up to 20 days.

The teacher confessed to assaulting the students during the investigation and court session but claimed that his intention was to prevent disorder and disruption of the teaching process.

However, footage from the classroom's CCTV also recorded the incident, and according to judicial authorities, it clearly showed the severity of the violence and the teacher's aggressive behavior.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department stated that such an attack in a school environment during class poses a threat to the personal safety of students and constitutes a violation of public order and safety.

What does UAE law say about corporal punishment of students?

According to UAE federal laws, corporal punishment of students by teachers is prohibited and can have criminal and disciplinary consequences, including dismissal from work, depending on the circumstances of the incident.

According to the National Policy for the Protection of Children in Educational Institutions published in 2022, physical abuse includes inflicting physical harm on a child or failing to prevent such harm.

Additionally, under the UAE Penal Code, inflicting injury or physical harm can result in imprisonment and fines. The type of punishment depends on the circumstances of the incident and the severity of the injury.
