Despite the tensions in the Middle East, the billion-dollar projects of Disney and Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi are ongoing.

In times when regional tensions and political news have made the atmosphere in the Middle East heavy, Abu Dhabi is trying to present a different image; a city that has not halted its billion-dollar projects and remains a destination for major global brands.

Abu Dhabi's tourism officials announced that major projects such as the Disney park and resort on Yas Island, the Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi, and the massive entertainment complex Sphere are progressing as planned, and the activities of hotels, attractions, and cultural centers in the city continue without interruption.

Saeed Abdulaziz Al-Hosani, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, stated that the presence of brands like Disney, Guggenheim, and Sphere indicates that global investors still have confidence in the future of Abu Dhabi and that the city aims to become one of the most important cultural and entertainment hubs in the world.

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by Frank Gehry, is set to open later this year; a modern museum in the Saadiyat cultural district focusing on contemporary art and works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Alongside it, the 'Sphere Abu Dhabi' project will soon enter the construction phase; a massive immersive hall similar to Sphere in Las Vegas with a capacity of about 20,000 people.

On the other hand, the Disney Yas Island project, built in collaboration with Disney and Miral, will be the first Disney resort and theme park in the Middle East; a project that aims to add hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, and new entertainment attractions to Yas Island.

According to officials, despite the regional conditions, the cancellation of events in Abu Dhabi has been 'very limited' and most cultural, commercial, and entertainment programs in the city are still taking place. Even some events that required rescheduling have been planned for late this year or for the years 2027 and 2028.

Abu Dhabi has also announced that the hotels and tourism centers in the city are fully operational, and during days when air disruptions caused some travelers to remain in the UAE, the additional accommodation costs for some tourists were covered by the tourism department.

This city recorded over 26.6 million visitors in 2025; a record-breaking statistic that shows Abu Dhabi wants to create its own narrative even in a tense regional atmosphere; a narrative of a city that is still developing, attracting investment, and building its future.
