Sometimes a wallet is left on the ground, sometimes a few banknotes are found in a shopping mall or transportation station. However, recent statistics from the Ministry of Interior of the UAE show that in 2025, thousands of people decided not to keep this money for themselves.

According to the Ministry of Interior's report, over the past year, 8706 people returned lost money they found on the streets, in public places, shopping centers, and transportation vehicles to police stations. The total value of these amounts reaches millions of dirhams and is being pursued through legal processes for return to their rightful owners.

Notably, the significant presence of children and teenagers in these statistics is remarkable. 257 children under 10 years old and 461 teenagers between 11 and 20 years old returned found money to the police; a statistic that officials say reflects the role of families and schools in teaching honesty and responsibility from a young age.

In one recorded instance, an 8-year-old girl found 17,000 dirhams in the courtyard of a cinema inside a shopping mall. She returned the money to the Al Rashidiya police station with her family; an action that received widespread attention and was praised as an example of moral values in UAE society.

The Ministry of Interior has stated that this statistic is not only about found money; it also reflects the level of social trust, sense of security, and cooperation among people and responsible institutions in the UAE. According to this ministry, such behaviors contribute to enhancing public security, social cohesion, and quality of life in the country.
