79% of UAE Residents Feel a Sense of Belonging to This Country
79% of UAE residents feel a sense of belonging to this country.
79% of residents in the UAE feel they belong to the community in which they live; a statistic that is one of the highlights of a new study on the resilience of people in this country.
A joint study by Zurich Insurance Group and Zurich International Life shows that the UAE scored 4.25 on the individual resilience index; higher than the global average of 4.11.
This research involved over 11,000 participants across 16 markets, with 973 of them in the UAE. Researchers examined resilience in five areas: psychological, physical, social, financial, and digital, and the UAE ranked above the global average in all five.
However, perhaps the most interesting aspect is the sense of belonging. 79% of participants in the UAE reported having a strong social sense of belonging; one of the highest figures recorded in this study. At the same time, 76% believe that government welfare programs have helped improve their mental health.
Looking to the future is also relatively positive: 70% of participants believe that the next generation is learning the necessary skills for resilience.
However, the picture is not entirely without weaknesses. About 16% of UAE residents have no financial savings for emergencies, and financial security remains one of the most significant challenges highlighted in this study.
Income disparity is also seen in work priorities; individuals with medium and high incomes are more likely to seek flexibility at work, while for low-income individuals, job stability and clarity of employment conditions are more important.
This study also shows that resilience is not limited to personal traits, and social environment, welfare policies, and economic conditions also play a role. Globally, employees with higher resilience are twice as likely to rate their performance as good or excellent.
Of course, these results are based on the responses of 973 individuals in the UAE and should not be taken as a definitive reflection of the entire population of the country.
