2 million people unfollowed the Instagram page of the Portugal team

The official Instagram page of the Portugal national football team has lost nearly 2 million followers in a short period due to the controversies surrounding "Cristiano Ronaldo", the captain of the team, and "Jorge Jesus", the coach of Portugal.

Statistics from this page show that the number of followers of the Portugal national football team account has decreased from about 24.9 million to 22.8 million.

The significant drop in Instagram followers began after Ronaldo left the Portugal national team's camp in Denmark following a dispute between him and Jesus. Reports indicate that the experienced national team striker decided to leave the camp after a conversation with "Pedro Proença", the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, on Wednesday. Shortly after, he confirmed his departure in a post on Instagram, stating that he would explain the reasons for this decision "at the appropriate time".

The spark for these events was ignited when the team's coach decided not to include Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting lineup. According to media reports, after the coach's public statements about this decision, tensions between the parties escalated, ultimately leading to Ronaldo's departure; an action that has sparked widespread discussions and speculations about his future in the national team.

The sharp decline in the number of followers on the official Portugal page on social media has also caught the attention of Portuguese media. The newspaper A Bola reported a loss of over 300,000 followers in less than 24 hours, and the radio and television network Renascença Portugal, relying on data from the HypeAuditor platform, recorded a decrease of over 370,000 followers, reaching a total of 24,631,902. Published reports indicate that many followers in the comments section stated that they followed the Portugal national team page solely because of Ronaldo's presence. Despite all these tensions, Cristiano Ronaldo remains one of the most popular figures in the world on Instagram, with his personal page's followers reaching approximately 679 million.
