119,000 driving licenses issued in 6 months in Dubai
In the first six months of 2026, Dubai issued a total of 119,188 driving licenses; a statistic that reflects both the increased demand for driving services and the development of smart systems for driver training and testing.
Of these, 96,400 licenses were issued for new drivers, and 22,788 individuals converted their licenses issued from approved countries to UAE licenses.
However, the story does not end with the number of licenses. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai is making the training and assessment process for drivers smarter. Now, artificial intelligence, cameras, and smart sensors are used in driving tests to evaluate applicants' performance based on uniform and more precise criteria.

Training also focuses more on defensive and preventive driving; meaning drivers learn to recognize hazards earlier, react to sudden changes, and make safer decisions. Trainees also practice conditions like rain, fog, and emergency situations using driving simulators before real experiences.
Another important aspect is training on road laws and safety; from adhering to speed limits and maintaining safe distances from other vehicles to the rights of pedestrians, not using mobile phones while driving, and following lanes, signs, and traffic lights.
Even the performance of driving instructors is evaluated by the RTA, and top instructors and driving schools are recognized based on the results of theoretical tests, “Smart Yard,” and road tests, as well as customer satisfaction.
The process of obtaining a license in Dubai still begins with creating a traffic file and a vision test, followed by theoretical training, knowledge tests, practical exercises, parking, and internal assessments, and finally, the applicant must successfully pass the final RTA road test.
The goal of these changes is not just to issue licenses faster; Dubai wants drivers to enter the road who, in addition to technical skills, are better prepared to face real traffic conditions and responsibilities towards other road users.
