If these hot days in the UAE seem endless to you, an ancient sign is on the way; the Suhail star.

Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, President of the Emirates Astronomy Society, stated that the last stars of the "Al-Qayz" period, which indicate the peak of summer heat, will rise on August 11.

However, the more important date is August 24; when the Suhail star is expected to be seen in the sky.

Suhail or Canopus, is the second brightest star in the night sky and has held a special place in the culture and astronomy of the people of the region since ancient times. Its appearance in the sky is traditionally seen as a sign of the gradual end of the toughest part of summer and the beginning of changing weather conditions.

According to this belief, after the rise of Suhail, a period of about 40 days begins during which the intensity of heat gradually decreases; a period known as "Safriyeh".

However, there is currently no sign of serious coolness. The UAE is still at the peak of summer heat, and on August 5, the temperature reached 51.2 degrees Celsius.

During these days, some parts of the country have also experienced rainfall and atmospheric instability. The National Center of Meteorology of the UAE states that intense heat can contribute to the formation of convective clouds, but heat alone is not sufficient for rainfall, and humidity, atmospheric instability, air currents, and suitable conditions at higher altitudes must also be present.

So for now, air conditioners remain in their places; but if we look at the signs in the sky, August 24 could mark the countdown to passing the peak heat of the UAE.
