Summer in Dubai is not just about school holidays and play for some kids. This year, a group of them will learn to dive in open waters, perform first aid, and even understand how the dangers behind chats in online games can translate into the real world.

Dubai Police is hosting one of its largest summer programs this year across eight educational centers in Dubai, with 1,400 students from 31 different nationalities participating. The response has been so overwhelming that the number of registrations has reached a record 145,000 requests, and the capacity of some centers was filled on the very first day.

This program, which began in the 1990s with a military approach, has now evolved into a collection of life skills; from cybersecurity education and awareness of internet crimes to emergency management and social responsibility.

One of the most exciting courses is the open water diving training, where participants over the age of 14 receive an international diving certificate upon completion, which they can use anywhere in the world. Swimming courses are also held to reduce drowning incidents during the summer holidays.

For the first time, the 'Little Rescuer' course has been added to the program so that children can learn first aid practically and respond in real situations, rather than just being spectators.

Another part of the training focuses on digital security. Students learn how to identify suspicious calls, scams, and dangers present in online games; a place where strangers often communicate with children through in-game chats.

Dubai Police even takes students to the Cyber Crime Room and the 901 Emergency Call Center to see firsthand how a report of an incident or crime is investigated and to overcome the fear of contacting the police.

Alongside all this, responsible use of mobile phones and social media is also part of the training; including the fact that sharing photos of others without permission or spreading false information is not just a moral mistake but can also have legal consequences.
