New Dubai Regulations for a Tidier Streetscape
Dubai aims to present a more organized and luxurious streetscape; therefore, more precise regulations for signage and display lighting are being implemented.
If you stroll through the streets of Dubai these days, you may have noticed that the appearance of some shops has gradually become more uniform and orderly than before. Now, the 'Dubai Civil Committee' and the Department of Economy and Tourism have once again warned shop owners to take signage regulations seriously; regulations aimed at creating a more cohesive city appearance.
According to guidelines defined in the 'Outdoor Advertising Guide' starting in 2024, each shop is only allowed to have one brand name on its facade, and using multiple names on a single sign is prohibited. Additionally, signs must be installed horizontally, with Arabic text placed above English, and the size of the sign must be appropriate for the shop's facade.
Dubai has even established regulations regarding sign lighting; bright white backgrounds or animated and moving signs are not permitted. Installing signs on building balconies or the exterior of units above the ground floor has also been declared prohibited.
The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai is responsible for issuing permits for these signs and monitoring compliance with the regulations.
The 'Dubai Civil Committee', formed in late 2025, is tasked with keeping the city's appearance more beautiful and organized; part of a program that Dubai claims aims to become 'the most beautiful and civilized city in the world.'
