The improper use of electric scooters on the internal streets of Dubai has now become a serious concern for drivers.

Imagine you are driving on one of the internal streets of Dubai, and suddenly an electric scooter appears in front of your car, coming from the opposite direction. This is an incident that is no longer strange for many drivers.

Now, a resident of Dubai has raised the same question: If an accident occurs, who is at fault? The driver who followed the rules or the electric scooter rider who is going against the flow of traffic?

According to legal experts and the new traffic laws in the UAE, all road users, whether they are car drivers, cyclists, or electric scooter riders, are required to follow traffic regulations and not endanger the lives of others.

The regulations in Dubai clearly state that electric scooters should only operate in designated paths, adhere to signs and traffic directions, and must not drive in a way that poses a danger to others. Therefore, driving against the direction can be considered a direct violation.

If an accident occurs, the case is initially referred to the Dubai police. The police prepare an official report by examining the scene, the speed, the level of attention of the driver, adherence to the rules by both parties, and details from moments before the incident, and based on that, responsibility is determined.

The report emphasizes that if the car driver has followed all the rules and, in contrast, the scooter rider has been moving against the direction or outside the designated path, there is a high likelihood that the scooter rider will be found completely or partially at fault.

However, the Dubai police state that the final decision always depends on the actual details of the incident; because even a few seconds of inattention from either side can change the outcome of the case.
