A simple email turned a family's life upside down in Dubai!

On a completely ordinary morning in one of Dubai's homes, it suddenly became an unforgettable moment when a woman, while getting her son ready for school, saw an email on her husband's phone indicating that they had won 5 million dirhams in the official UAE lottery.

Brendan Tekram, a 39-year-old immigrant from South Africa living in Dubai, says that day he asked his wife to check her emails as usual, but seconds later everything changed.

He told the Gulf Times:

“My wife was completely shocked and kept asking: Is this real? Did we really win this much money?”

The email that changed their lives confirmed that Brendan was the winner of the 5 million dirham “Lucky Day” prize in the official UAE lottery; a prize that made him the second winner of this amount in the last two months.

Interestingly, this was the first time this prize was awarded in the Wednesday lottery; as this game has recently changed from once a week to twice a week.

Brendan says:

“We were in shock for a few minutes. Then, as we gradually started to believe it, we hugged each other.”

Despite this big event, the family tried to maintain their calm.

He says:

“Even after that news, I went straight to work!”

Brendan moved to Dubai in September 2023 after his telecommunications company transferred him and is currently the IT support manager, coordinating operations across various parts of Africa.

He explained that every morning he first prepares his son for school and then starts his work calls and support activities.

Interestingly, he has always believed that one day he would win a large amount.

He said:

“When the official UAE lottery was launched, I jokingly told my wife: They set this up just for me!”

Brendan believes that positivity and envisioning success played a significant role in this event:

“I always imagined myself in this situation. I even asked my wife what we would do if one day we won 30 million dirhams?”

However, this family says they do not intend to suddenly change their lifestyle.

One of their main priorities is to support a project that Brendan's wife has been working on for a long time. They have recently completed the legal steps to patent their idea and now want to develop a prototype.

This family also hopes to move to a villa.

But the most important aspect of this win for Brendan is his son's future.

He said their child has a slight speech delay and now they can provide better facilities and centers to help him.

Brendan says:

“Every father wants to ensure that his child succeeds in life. This money gives us more opportunities to support our son.”

He emphasized at the end that even after becoming a millionaire, he does not intend to quit his job:

“This win just creates more peace and security for our family while we continue on our normal path of life.”
