The first indigenous SUV of the UAE has been unveiled, focusing on power, durability, and long journeys.

In a region where roads quickly turn to sand and rock, there has always been one question: why are the vehicles we drive here designed for somewhere else?

Now, Abu Dhabi wants to reverse this equation.

This week, the Emirati company K2 unveiled its new brand THEEB and its first vehicle, the model X01, at the "Make it in the Emirates 2026" event; a mid-size off-road SUV designed from the ground up for UAE conditions, rather than adapted later.

This vehicle is set to be assembled in Abu Dhabi; its parts will be sourced from abroad, but the final assembly will take place within the UAE, marking another step towards domestic production.

The name "THEEB" means "wolf"; a symbol of resilience and survival. A concept that is closely tied to the lifestyle in this region: long journeys, desert camps, and roads that are part of the collective memory of the people.

Technically, the X01 is designed to compete directly with the giants of this class. It boasts around 550 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque, combining a turbocharged engine with a plug-in hybrid system. This means more power on tough terrains like sand and rock, as well as better fuel efficiency on long routes.

With 13 driving modes, from driving on sand to mountain driving and even Tank Turn, this vehicle is not just for the city; it is built for the heart of the desert. The ground clearance is also set at 235 mm to make traversing uneven paths easier.

Unlike many luxury SUVs today, the X01 uses a body-on-frame chassis and solid axles, an old choice but exactly suitable for harsh desert conditions.

This vehicle is introduced in three versions: Base, Lux, and Sport, each offering different levels of off-road features and equipment; from simple design to full adventure gear like snorkels and all-terrain tires.

The colors are also related to geography: "Sun" yellow, "Sand" pearl, and "Stone" gray.

Details about pricing and release time have not yet been announced, but the message of this unveiling is clear; the UAE wants to be more than just a consumer; it wants to build for its own roads.
