Summer in Dubai is always known for its heat, but now it is set to be recognized for its color as well.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has issued an order to launch a large-scale campaign for planting "Flame Trees"; a tree that, with its red and orange flowers, transforms the city's appearance every year from May to the end of July.

This decision was made after a meeting with the Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Future Foundation; where it was decided that this tree should not just be a decorative element, but rather a part of the everyday experience of life in the city, from streets and parks to the yards of homes.

In a video released by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, Dubai is narrated through the lens of these trees: people walking, playing tennis, or spending time in parks, while the shade and color of these trees accompany them. He wrote: "When the Flame Tree blooms in summer, it brings life to every home, every gathering, and every street."

According to the Municipality's announcement, the planting of this tree is set to expand throughout the city, and even seedlings will be provided to residents who wish to plant them in their homes or farms.

The "Flame Tree," scientifically known as Delonix regia, is compatible with Dubai's hot and humid climate and grows rapidly. This tree, in addition to its beauty, is also practical: its wide shade can reduce ground temperature by about 5 degrees, an advantage that is not insignificant during Dubai's summers.

A tree that has come from afar is now set to take root more than ever in Dubai; a city that wants to remain vibrant and colorful even on the hottest days.
