Return of students and universities to in-person classes in the UAE | End of over a month of online education from April 20

The UAE Ministry of Education announced that all students, educational staff, and administrative personnel will return to in-person classes in schools, kindergartens, and universities starting Monday, April 20, 2026.

This decision was made after more than a month of remote learning, a period that began due to regional security conditions and recent conflicts.

According to officials, extensive preparation programs have been planned for this return, which include:

Training for staff, safety inspections, and field assessments of schools and universities to ensure the complete readiness of educational centers.

Frameworks have also been designed to allow for quick transitions between in-person and online education if necessary.

In Dubai, schools had previously sent out surveys to parents to assess readiness for the return of students, with results indicating widespread support from families for returning to in-person classes.

In Sharjah, it has also been announced that all educational and administrative staff of schools and kindergartens must resume their activities in person immediately to prepare for the return of students. Additionally, kindergartens will begin accepting children from April 16.

Online education began on March 2 as a precautionary measure and, despite an initial short-term plan, was extended several times due to regional conditions. Now, with a ceasefire in place and conditions improving, the process of returning to classes has begun.
